The UK's Volkswagen Drag Racing Club Championship Co-ordinator and honorary Eurodragster staff member Spencer Tramm is planning a return to the track in 2004 in a new Volkswagen Corrado-bodied race car built by Chris Isaacs. The Super Gas - and VW Alternate Engine-destined Quantum Leap Corrado is to be powered by the Jeff Bull 468ci Big Block Chevy engine with which Martin Curbishley won the 2002 UK National Super Comp Championship, and which should propel Spencer into the mid-nines.

"I've been planning this for about a year", says Spencer. "I had a million and one ideas what to do, I finally went out and bought a breaker for the body panels. Typical, just as Top Gear announce that the Corrado could be a classic of the future I go and cut one up!"

Construction started at Chris Isaacs Race Cars in July 2003, and the car is now about to be painted. For Spencer there was only one choice of paint shop: Curbishley Automotive Refinishing, the company owned by Martin Curbishley, who has painted a number of race cars and for whom Spencer has been crewing for the last couple of years. "If it's like any of the other cars which Martin has painted then it'll be noticed, that's for sure!", says Spencer.
